That may be overkill for some, but we appreciate these options. (To see these options in Slack, click the “Aa” icon below the text-entry box in Teams, click the icon that looks like an “A” with a paintbrush over it.) But Teams provides a more word processing-like experience, with the abilities to choose a font color, select from three font sizes, insert a table, undo and redo typing, apply paragraph styles, and such. There are some differentiating features to consider:īoth offer some text formatting capabilities when writing messages. Messaging and chat: Communication via messaging is clearly core to each product, and both do a fine job in this department. For example, in Slack you can search using modifiers such as or before. But Slack search feels more robust to us, especially if you’re used to fine-tuning Gmail search results. Search: Both offer great search capabilities. In dozens of queries, Slackbot only missed the mark once or twice in its answer. Just type a DM to Slackbot with a keyword or fully formed question and you’ll (usually) get exactly what you need within seconds. Especially helpful on the Training tab is that each article tells you how long it will take to read, so you can decide before clicking if it’s worth your time.īut Slackbot, an in-app chatbot, gets our vote. Each tab is well-organized, offering easily accessible help content without you having to search - although you can search, too, of course. In-app help: Teams offers a Help icon at the bottom of the sidebar with links to Topics, Training, and What’s New. The automated Slackbot, a chatbot for help, is also easily available in the sidebar. Slack’s sidebar includes links to channels, threads, direct messages (DMs), and many more options, including “All Unreads,” which displays all unread messages in one convenient feed. Teams’ top-line navigation includes tabs for Conversations, Files, and a team wiki. You can filter the feed by ‘My Activity’ to see conversations in which you’ve been involved, a handy way to get focused. The Activity dashboard provides an at-a-glance overview of everything happening in your organization. The Teams sidebar includes icons for Activity, Chat, Teams, Files, and depending on how the organization sets it up, Calendar, Calls, and more. Slack’s interface is more visual than Teams’ and a bit more fun. Teams navigation is more focused on teams, while Slack puts more emphasis on channels, work areas that users create around projects, topics, or teams. Navigation: Both clients offer their main navigation in sidebars on the left-hand side. ![]() By comparison, Teams offers only three customization options: default (light), dark, and high contrast. Of the two, Slack offers more customization options, with many different ways to tweak the sidebar’s look and what appears on it, such as whether to always include all direct messages, how to sort content, and so on. The Teams look and feel is well organized and efficient, with messaging front and center. Teams has a vaguely corporate look, which feels more streamlined but generic. Slack has a freeform, looser feel that we like but some might consider a tad chaotic. ![]() Look and feel: Both the Slack and Teams desktop apps have easily navigated interfaces, with messaging front and center as the focus. ![]() (Note that in this story we’re looking at Teams primarily as a work hub based on text chat, not at its videoconferencing features.) Here’s what we found. To make your decision a little easier, we’ve compared Slack and Teams for enterprises in six categories: interface and usability integrations additional noteworthy differences mobile and browser apps security, compliance, and enterprise management and pricing. In fact, some enterprises have effectively chosen not to choose. There are two excellent collaboration platforms from which to choose, both of which are constantly getting better as new features are added. Slack said its paid customer base was more than 177,000 in August 2021. For its part, Slack has said its own users are more actively engaged, interacting with Slack on average 120 minutes a day and overall taking more than five billion actions a week. Indeed, Microsoft has been touting Teams’ growing user numbers with great fanfare, citing 250 million active daily users as of July 2021.

So, if you want to resize keeping the same aspect ratio but according to the width, don’t touch the height field. Keep in mind that out of width and height, the one you changed/typed last is the one controlling the aspect ratio. Batch conversion for images from command line on Windows. Using Gimp to batch convert images to another format in Windows. In the output directory, I can not find files other than the first one, either. While resizing the images, you can choose to keep the aspect ratio. In CMD, there appears a line after my batch command that replaces the x wildcard by the first file name - but only the first. You can choose to convert only a few of your selected images. You can add additional images to your selection or remove some of them. It converts any number of images in batch, rotate, resizes, crops etc. ![]() You have plenty of supporting options for the batch conversion. Convert Image Files Via Command Line With Total Image Converter Usage: ImageConverter. Actually, Converseen uses ImageMagick underneath the Qt-based GUI. ![]() Another way to resize an image in Linux Terminal is to use the ‘mogrify’ command. For example, to resize an image named ‘image.jpg’ to a width of 400 pixels and a height of 300 pixels, the following command would be used: convert image.jpg -resize 400×300 imageresized.jpg. This could be done in the Linux command line with the wonderful ImageMagick but a GUI tool is a lot easier to use here. The syntax for the convert command is: convert -resize x. This is a handy tool for someone like me who has to deal with multiple screenshots of different sizes but has to resize them all before uploading to the website.īatch conversion tools help a lot in such cases. With this tool, you can convert multiple images to another format, resize, change their aspect ratio, rotate or flip them all at once. With over 130 configurable command-line choices, it's easy to create batch files to perform image processing. AutoImager also offers extensive command-line support. ![]() AutoImager allows you to alter an image or curl a page, batch convert images, and can even function as digital watermarking software. Converseen is a free and open source software for batch image conversion. The entire application is highly customizable. ![]() It certainly compares favorably to even Adobe’s great-value Photography Plan – within six months you’ll start saving money. Currently priced at $79 / £59, Luminar Neo offers a fulsome set of tools for not much money. Images were occasionally hesitant to load, although once ready, the editing tools feel fluid and allow the kind of very fine-grained changes perfectionists will demand. For pros it’s missing a few things – decent cataloguing for one thing – and we also noticed, as with our review of Luminar AI, that performance was occasionally a little off the mark. Tool-wise, we feel Luminar Neo probably meets the need of a good proportion of amateur photographers. But with no cataloguing, or indeed editing, of any type, it’s more one to watch than a reason to commit to the software. You can wirelessly load images straight from Luminar Neo to a mobile device, and from there share them further. It’s important not to pre-judge, but with Luminar Neo offering decent results, AI-wise, we’ve got high hopes for both of these.Ī final touch with Luminar Neo is its companion app, about which it’s currently impossible to file under anything other than 'good idea'. The full release version is out now and includes presets and layers, but an upcoming update will add Mask AI (which will do what Photoshop's Quick Select tool does) as well as Portrait Background Removal AI, which will presumably do what it says on the tin. ![]() It’s worth stressing that although much of Luminar Neo’s appeal is in tinker-free editing, you can fine-tune the effects the automated tools give you using the masking brush.Ī point worth making is that our review is, currently, based on an early access version of Luminar Neo. On images with more clearly defined subjected – either in terms of their brightness or the sharpness falloff between them and their background – the tool worked much better, selectively brightening the subject, or the background. On images with large depth of field – that is, more sharpness throughout the image – it seemed Luminar was struggling somewhat to accurate gauge the depth of the shot. We went in with high hopes for Relight with Luminar Neo acquitting itself well elsewhere, there seemed a chance this might to an end the days of laboriously masking out a subject and endlessly dodging and burning them to get the desired result.īut we got a mixed set of results. ![]() Relight is a tool that analyses the depth in an image, detecting the foreground near the camera and the background further away, and then allows you to make exposure corrections based on that information. Photographers of all experience levels will know the challenge of correctly exposing a subject when they’re against a very dark or bright surface and will similarly know the challenges associated with correcting missed exposures in software. The inclusion of the AI-powered Relight is another tool with heaps of potential. One image with a pair of enormous dust spots failed completely, with Neo unable to detect or remove them. Where we had nothing but untrammeled success for removing powerlines, removing dust proved a little more hit and miss. Under the same set of erasing tools you also get automatic dust spot removal. Not only did Luminar Neo accurately detect powerlines – including one case where the cables faded into an area of over-exposure – but it made an exceedingly decent fist of removing them as well, deleting the lines and leaving no trace of the efforts made to conceal them. We tried this on four or five images, with powerlines that featured either prominently or diminutively in the composition, and came away impressed. For example, there’s the specific but frequently helpful option to remove powerlines, the blight of landscape photographers everywhere. Take, for example, the AI crop tool, which attempts to detect your subject and then line it up in the frame in a pleasing way or Luminar’s famed 'sky replacement', which will swap out your gunmetal-grey winter clouds for something with a bit more pizazz.īoth of those are present in Luminar AI, though – Luminar Neo brings with it a whole new set of tricks and toys. What makes Luminar Neo interesting is its AI tools, which claim to relieve you, the retoucher, of much of the technical strain of image editing, and even some of the creative choices you’ll have to make. Industry standards such as curves, white balance and so on are all in here, allowing you to do the simple stuff, like punching up colors and contrast, correcting color balance, cropping images to get your compositions right and so on.Īll of which, of course, you can do in just about any image editor. Whether you buy the AI hype or not, Luminar Neo has a strong set of image editing tools. ![]() I just spammed 'Try to find the pool'/'Try to find the Shrine' and eventually the sun came up.
